Making Your Website Search Engine Friendly

There is no point in building a website unless you have visitors looking at it. A major source of traffic for most sites on the Internet is search engine traffic from Google, Yahoo!, MSN, and so on. So, by designing a search engine friendly site, you will be able to easily rank in search engines and get more of those visitors.

The major search engines use programs called crawlers or robots to index websites for listing on their search result pages. They use these crawlers as a means of providing up-to-date data. They follow links to a page, read the content of the page and record it in their own database, pulling up the listing as people search for it.

Frames are something to be avoided on your website if you want to make your site indexed easily. Using frames can prevent search engines from finding pages within a website or cause the search engine to send visitors into a site without the proper frame “context” being established. Frames tend to only confuse search engine robots causing them to abandon your site. Moreover, frames make it difficult for users to bookmark a specific page on your site without using long, complicated scripts.

Do not present important information in Flash movies or in images. Since crawler-based search engines were primarily designed to index HTML text, web sites built with Flash may be difficult or impossible for crawlers to read. Search engine robots can only read text on your source code so if you present important words in Flash movies and images rather than textual form, your search engine ranking will be affected dramatically.

Meta tags are used to help some search engines index your page, especially if your page has frames. Meta tags should be placed between the and tags of your document. Use meta tags on each and every page of your site so that search engine robots know at first glance what that particular page is about and whether or not to index it.

Stop using wrong HTML tags like “font” to style your page. Use CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) instead because they are more effective and efficient. Using CSS, you will eliminate redundant HTML tags and make your pages much lighter and faster to load.

The search engines will generate more traffic to your website. All you need to do is make your web pages search engine friendly. Follow the guide and you will see more traffic.

Marketing for an Online Business

Each business is different and the type of marketing may very.  You will need to find some way of testing to compete with your competition.  Find your competition see what the most successful businesses do then do that only better.  Don’t reinvent the wheel, improve upon it. I have given you some ways to start the process.

One of the great ways that you can perform marketing for an online business is by running it from your website.  Develop a forum or discussion board on the different topics that your customers find most important.  People will always want to come back again and again to read what others have to say.  This will provides you with some great repeat traffic.  This method will help your natural search engine traffic get your page indexed.  It will provide some back link opportunities, which will help in marketing your online business.

Within your forum, you are able to market to your users with products developed using the topics on your website.  When these customers are ready to buy, they will think of buying from you first because of the connection between your website and them. This way, you have created a win-win situation for both parties.  You will have developed a stable base of customers while also giving yourself the opportunity to grow your business because of the opportunities such as back links, search engine traffic, and being more heavily indexed.

Another good way of creating marketing for an online business is to give away free products.  Develop a forum or discussion board on the different topics that your customers find most important. There is a lot of traffic to these websites and if you are able to send some of this traffic to your website, you will place higher in the search engine.

If you are using free giveaways, make sure that you are receiving something in return such as the person’s e-mail address.  People will provide you with their email address is the receive something of worth, and that worth can be your freebie.  Once you have the person’s email you can market directly to them.  This is one of the best marketing for an online business and this is the best return on investment (ROI).

Another way in which you can look at creating marketing for an online business is to write good sales copy.  This is going to be one of the simplest methods.  It could be the most effective way because by improving what is written on your website, you will be able to convert more of your traffic and this will have a direct impact on your bottom line.

This is not by far the only ways of creating marketing for an online business but a good place to start.  By taking the time to improve your website, using the example I provided for you will have the greatest impact.  If your website fails to run effectively and draw customers in, then your website might be one of the many obscure websites on the internet.

Should I Have my Own Website and Should I Build it Myself?

Should you have your own website? Lets see! Why do you want to have a website? If creating one would boost sales or promote positive implications to yourself, then by all means, go ahead and do what’s best.

Websites are the in thing these days.  Everyone and their mother has a website, it can be in fashion, sports, or something like that. Websites have become a necessity to almost everyone. Companies, businesses, individuals, even young adults have created personal websites for profit, or for entertainment.

Now that you are determined to build a website, and I knew you would, there are harder considerations to think about. You should be consider several factor before creating a website. These factors are cost, maintenance, use, web host, and driving people to it.

First you should consider the cost. You must always try to find an affordable host which has a very good up time.  It does you no good the have a cheap host if they are down a lot of time. People will become frustrated with your site and just not visit it.  Still you need a to look for a reliability rate. There are a lot of cases where the web hosts has not provided the service they had said they do. Some have even shut down and were nowhere to be seen. Keep this in mind. GoDaddy and 1and1 are two very good host. Do a search for ‘web hosting’ and see what comes up.

Your next consideration is, would hiring a professional be affordable? Is it the best option? For simple websites, you can always look for a free code, or even use a free programs.  You can even modify your free code with your free program.  I like free. If you have read my other blogs on creating a web site you will see I very much into open source.

Now, when it comes to more complex coding, and when you want it to do more than just providing information, hiring help in doing so may be the best way to save time. Not only in terms of design, but security is also a key consideration in assuring a quality website. If the website also acts as a portal for businesses, security would definitely be the issue here.

After you have decides that you need a website and will build it you will need to know how to drive people to it.  Man if I could tell you in one easy paragraph, I would be a genius.  To find that out you will need to look at my web page for Traffic and Search Engine Optimization. Having Mini Sites as a Strategy

A good strategy for having an internet business making money is having a mini site. A mini site is a good alternative to a large site with many pages. Let’s look at reasons why mini sites work.

We have all seen large online sites like Amazon or Walmart with hundreds of hundreds of wed pages to surf. There is no way I would be able to create a site that can complete with them. In order to maintain this type of site it would require a lot of time and money. There is something simpler. A mini site is the answer.

Mini sites do not target any and all things. It focuses on a niche. Target an under served niche. By doing this you can position your web site to get better rankings with search engines. With some good Search Engine Optimization (SEO) your can be getting targeted traffic. Traffic is what makes or breaks you.

I will move on to the meat if the matter. A mini site can be a one to three page web site. At most it can be five pages. It consists of a sales letter with an order form, a “thank you for buying, and a link to get the product. You can have a page to up-sell your customer. An up-sell is something like in the fast food industries; would you like fries with your order?

To build a mini site you will need a good HTML editor. The one that I use is KompoZer. This software is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) web builder software. This software is open source. Open source is free to use. There are many tutorials on the web to help you learn the software. Just go to your web browser and search on Kompozer.

When you design your mini site web page there are several design considerations to keep in mind:

  1. A Strong Header: You don’t need any graphics just a strong headline that is professional and relevant. Use the H1 font size.
  2. Fast Load Time: Some graphics will slow you site. Keep it simple.
  3. A Call to Action: Be specific in telling the reader what to do. If that action is to place an order, leave their email, or whatever, tell them.
  4. Test: Always be testing that first page. See if by changing the length of the page changes you hit rate. What about the type of font? If you change that does your hit rate change? Test everything!

Oh … one more thing! Here is a link to Mini Sites to add to your strategy.

I hope this gives you a good basic understand of Mini Sites. You can have a web site that is simple or complex. Just remember, you don’t need a monster site to have an internet business making money.
